FOCUS — Separate incoming trades from goods ready for sale. Updated 22 October 2026 An incoming collection, a customer-selected card and a paid order should not share an unlabelled pile on the service surface. Plan the counter around a short chain of custody. The arrangement can be tested with paper labels and empty trays before hardware is specified. DECISIONS Incoming inspection A temporary tray or clearly identified position for items awaiting review. Define who accepts the items and where they wait during an interruption. Sales and payment A distinct place for the selected item, POS and receipt or order information. Keep customer access and device cables out of staff retrieval paths. Reserved or completed orders A controlled holding position separate from live display stock. Use a reference and a return or handoff procedure. REVIEW SEQUENCE 1. Sketch the counter from the staff side with every door, drawer and service device shown. 2. Trace one incoming trade, one assisted sale and one collection of a reserved order. 3. Measure the complete joined run and any corner return; allow for the actual door sweep and receiving route. 4. Record which part of the operation needs an additional work surface and which can share a position at different times.
