A Shelf-Facing Worksheet for Booster Boxes and Sealed TCG Products
Calculate a trial row from usable shelf space, package size and handling gaps, then record load and replenishment checks before ordering.
A practical planning method with a downloadable working record. Examples are illustrative; they are not test results or a specification for an unverified product.
Start with the clear opening
Record the bay reference and the smallest clear width between its restrictions. Include uprights, shelf lips, end panels and any fitting that affects the row. Overall fixture dimensions belong in the drawing, but they are not the measurement used to calculate facings.
Measure each package in the orientation used for sale. A closed box, a raised display lid and an open box used for pack sales can require different vertical and front-to-back space. Label the sample and photograph it beside a ruler so the next person can repeat the measurement.
Work through a hypothetical row
The following numbers are a teaching example, not a FOCUS shelf or packaging specification. Suppose the clear opening is 862 mm. Reserve 20 mm at each end, use a sample box 127 mm wide and allow 8 mm between boxes. The usable width after end clearance is 822 mm.
For equal packages in one row, estimate positions as floor((usable width + gap) / (package width + gap)). Here that is floor((822 + 8) / (127 + 8)) = 6. Six boxes require 6 × 127 + 5 × 8 + 40 = 842 mm including the reserved ends. A seventh would require 977 mm and would not fit.
The result is a trial layout, not approved capacity. A label strip, a leaning box or a hand reaching the last item can change what is usable. Assemble all six positions with real packages before retaining the number in the fixture schedule.
Keep facings, depth and reserve stock separate
A facing is a visible position across the row. It does not say how many boxes should be stored behind it. Record the proposed front-to-back quantity, access direction and location of reserve cartons as separate entries.
Do not divide shelf depth by box depth and assume every resulting position is usable. Check the shelf lip, rear stop, raised lid and the space needed to grasp the front box. If stock must be lifted over another box, test that movement with the actual product.
Record weight without inventing a shelf rating
Multiply actual item weight by the intended item count for each shelf. As another hypothetical example, twelve boxes at 0.65 kg each contribute 7.8 kg of merchandise. This excludes other products and fittings and does not establish the shelf system capacity.
Send the full shelf schedule to the supplier and ask them to confirm the shelf, bracket, upright and attachment arrangement for the actual load. Uneven placement, large unsupported spans and later product changes must remain visible in that review.
Approve the reset and refill procedure
Try removing the last box, replacing a price label and refilling the row while someone is browsing. Identify where an open shipping carton waits during this operation. Adjust the layout if replenishment blocks a customer route or disturbs neighbouring products.
Save the measured sample, drawing revision, accepted quantity and a front/side photograph together. Recheck the bay when packaging changes. The worksheet is most useful as a record of an observed arrangement rather than a permanent number copied across every release.
Working record
| Record | What to write | Check |
|---|---|---|
| Clear opening and end allowance | Record measured bay width and both reserved ends. | Do not substitute overall fixture width. |
| Package and orientation | Record outside width, depth, height and the display-lid position. | Use the labelled sample. |
| Trial row and load | Record accepted facings, depth quantity and merchandise weight. | Ask for system approval; retain the test photos. |
Questions before using the worksheet
Does the formula establish a safe shelf load?
No. It estimates equal-package positions in a simple row. Load and the complete support arrangement need separate confirmation.
Can I copy the result to another booster release?
Only after checking its actual packaging and the intended selling orientation.
Apply the record to your fixture brief
Send the completed fields with your measured site information, merchandise examples and required delivery destination. Identify any unverified assumptions so they can be resolved before the configuration is approved.
